
Branch Head - Software Engineer - ELSYS - (Open Rank)

The position
The Open Test Software Branch (OTSB) within the Test Engineering (TEN) Division develops Test and Evaluation (T&E) solutions for Department of Defense (DoD) Electronic Warfare (EW) and Avionics systems, with a specific focus on the systems engineering, design, development, application, and testing of these systems. OTSB has an additional focus on the development of T&E solutions for systems that are compliant with Open Systems Architectures (OSAs).
Responsibilities
Lead multiple sponsored research projects. Manage Branch (7-15 FTEs) administrative activities including hiring, appraisals and sponsored project success.
Requirements
- Direct sponsor engagement and facilitate product or system requirements gathering and analysis.
- Verify systems engineering product life-cycle including definition, requirements analysis, synthesis, systems analysis and implementation.
- Conduct product or system design synthesis translating requirements into physical architectures for systems Of moderate complexity. Define/refine internal and external interfaces.
- Develop technical reports and diagrams detailing product or system attributes.
- Analyze product or system functionality as defined by requirements.
Additional Responsibilities
- Manage branch administrative activities for branch of 7-15 researchers, including hiring, appraisals and sponsored projects.
- Oversee branch budgets, resources, and institute policies and procedures compliance.
- Support branch operations and collaborate across branches within the division and other laboratories of GTRI.
- Train and mentor branch members including research faculty, undergraduate students, and graduate students to develop expertise in conducting EW T&E research.
- Provide personnel support including the recruitment, hiring, performance appraisals, performance improvement plans, and review/approval of employee timesheets.
- Lead multiple sponsored research projects as required and ensure that branch projects are executed to meet project objectives. Ensure that all branch technical work is performed and documented to organizational and DOD standards based on project requirements.
- Develop research areas that span multiple aspects of EW and Avionics by interacting with existing and potential customers, coordinating white papers and proposals, and contributing the core ideas that form them.
- Socialize branch capabilities and research areas through sponsor engagement, including GTRI visits and technical meetings.
Required Minimum Qualifications
- Experience executing on technical project(s).
- Experience leading small to mid-sized teams of research engineers and technical staff.
